Cyprus is preparing to enter a new era of European integration, as President Nikos Christodoulides confirms the nation’s goal to join the Schengen Zone by 2026.
With all technical requirements set to be completed by the end of 2025, the move promises not only streamlined travel for Cypriots but also a strategic milestone in the country’s EU journey.
Travel set to get easier
For most people, joining the Schengen Zone will make travel easier. They won’t face passport checks between member countries, and visa issues will be less of a hassle. Airports will also be less stressful.
It will also bring Cyprus closer to Europe’s economic and security systems.
President Christodoulides called it “a development not just for Cyprus, but for the European Union as well.” His view shows a larger goal: to raise Cyprus’ role and influence within the EU.
What Schengen entry will mean for Cyprus Real Estate
Joining the Schengen Zone offers more than easier travel which subsequently could also boost the economy.
Real Estate, the biggest part of Cyprus’ foreign income after tourism, is likely to grow as well. Schengen travelers will be able to visit Cyprus without extra border checks, making the island a better destination on European market investors.
Schengen entry also shows that Cyprus is fully part of the EU, not just in words, but in action. It strengthens the country’s role in regional security, law enforcement, and political cooperation.
